Old New Balance
June 24, 2008
To whom it may concern,
I am writing today to share with you the upsetting experience I had with my first pair of New Balance cross trainers.
I obtained what I thought were the best cross trainers in the market only to have them fall apart after two months of use (see pictures). There was no apparent reason as to why this occurred so I am left to believe that they were inferiorly made. I have never had the inside of my trainers wear out on me and I usually replace my trainers once a year, not because they are worn but for a new style. These did not even last one year.
Obviously because I wore the shoes I cannot return them to the outlet that I bought them from (TJ Maxx). Also I threw out the receipt because I purchased them in Buffalo, New York and I live in Canada and would have no feasible way to return them.
My hope in writing this letter is that New Balance will put more care into the manufacturing of their shoes. I’m sure that not all New Balances will fall apart on me but I am weary of purchasing another one. I am not an avid runner so my shoes do not wear out easily but this pair did. I have not had this problem with my Nikes or Adidas trainers and I have now gone back to wearing them.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter,

I am writing to share with you the disappointing experience I have had owning my first ACER laptop (Aspire 3610).
As a previous owner of a laptop for over five years, I was hoping that my ACER would last just as long but instead it has been plagued with issues from the monitor not working to battery problems and it is only two years old. No other laptop I have used has ever malfunctioned as much as the ACER has.
As a writer I depend on my laptop to be at least sufficient enough to last me for a few years. The main issue that I have now with the laptop is that since it was returned to me from warranty repairs, the battery power has diminished and 20 minutes is the max battery power life. Also the outlet power is not working causing the laptop to not charge. I changed the power cord twice and this problem is still continuing.
I realize that because my laptop was purchased in 2006, it is now out of warranty so I cannot send it in and the costs of trying to repair it is not worth it. My hope in writing this letter though is that you will look into such issues so that others with ACERs do not have the same problems (my friend’s Aspire 3610 has the same issues as me). I am now using my older laptop which is over five years old and, other than being a bit slow, does not give me any problems.

I'm An Eighties Baby, Baby!
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that...
I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!
I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!
There was no email! ! We had to actually write somebody a letter ...with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!
There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!
We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!
We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like"Space Invaders" and "asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! . Just like LIFE!
When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed!
You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off Your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!
And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire ... imagine that!
If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid JiffyPop thing and Shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.
You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Toronto Week of Style
While we may not be New York or London, we are Toronto, the most multicultural city in the world and the biggest city population wise in Canada.
That's why we have to represent our culture and why not with a week of style, 11 shows from May 28-31.
Created four years ago, TWOS was intended to showcase fashion in Canada.
Visit their website at torontoweekofstyle.com to RSVP for a show.
Blue Jays
I will start by saying I need the number of Jay's player Alex Rios, not uniform number, phone number. Even the little blond chick behind me was like "He's cute. Really cute."
The Jays haven't been much since back to back World Series wins in the early 90's. So when I went to their game against the Kansas City Royal on May 23, I wasn't expecting anything, especially not a 7-1 win.
It was a great and quick game, only two hours, which is rare in baseball. In fact that's a major reason why MLB isn't as popular as the NFL or even NBA, it's too long. It's end is not determined by time but rather getting to the 9th inning which can take forever sometimes. But that's a whole other blog on sports economics...
I'm writing to let Torontonians know that Jays games are fun! Especially if you sitting in the Hot Dog Zone-all you can eat dogs, pop and nachos! For only $39. (i think that's what they said). And those hot dog eater were having their own kind of fun-they started what I'm calling the world's longest wave, 6 rounds of the entire Rogers Centre. Crazy.
I was even able to smuggle my own nuts (honey roasted) into the game. The only thing I didn't get was why there were so many cops there. Even on the field. Is it the streakers? I dunno but Jays games rock and I hope to attend at least one more and an Argos game this summer.
Note: I'm serious about Alex Rios's number...I'll pay good money for it to! and my seats were the best ever section 113 -bottom level! And big ups to the Rogers Centre for putting up Jackie Robinsons name and number.
My Official Gas Prices Rant
It's delayed but it's still an issue. I remembering seeing the price at 115/Litre just in April and nearly $#!tting myself but now it's 127.3-just a month later- and I don't even react to it.
However, now that I realize the effect it has on everything such as the cost of flights and the amount of holidays I can take, I'm getting pissed.
Now I realize that the price of crude oil has increased significantly (around $135 a barrel) and everything from the bread to milk has increased in recent years, I still can't help but to feel that something needs to be done about the gas price.
I don't think that reducing taxes on gas will help but damn it would be good to have an offered solution other than just suck it up. Maybe instead of reducing GST they should have kept it that same and apply a reduction to gas prices. I dunno.
So my official stand point is: I don't know who to blame but it sucks
Note:
- I don't know what days are best to by gas anymore because it's always high
- Putting the most expensive gas (now over $1.30) does mean fewer trips to fill up
- I'm racking up airmiles from shell because of the increased price
- I will not let the price put a damper on my summer!
- 680 News gives notice/warnings at when gas price is going to go up
- I tried to get a pic when the gas was at 127.3 but I missed it

Yes We Can, But Can He?
Once considered the underdog in the democratic party’s presidential candidacy race, Obama is now set to be a winning. He may not have gotten the big ballets like NY or Texas, but by collected a majority of the small ones he has managed to pull himself above Hilary Clinton.
A lot of negative comments have been made regarding if he did win. Rapper 50 Cent has already said that America is not ready for a black* president. “I don't think America is ready to have a black president. I think they might kill him." For that reason 50 said he was going to vote for Hillary Clinton.
As ignorant as that comment might seem, it was probably a thought through the minds of many. After all this is the same country that assassinated politicians for trying to treat all people equal. Only 44 years since the murder of JFK, is American ready for a black president?
Many have started to think so. Even 50 has changed his views and has stated that he will vote for Obama after hearing his speech about race.
Public opinion aside, the numbers show the Obama is well on his way to at least being the democratic party’s candidate, winning votes with his Yes, We Can slogan but can he become the President of the United States. November will tell us.
*Obama is part Kenyan and white but considering the “one drop” rule, that still makes him a black.

Where Have You Been My Whole Life
After five seasons and no emmy's, the best show on TV has come to an end. The gritty, real HBO drama showed the inside dealings of the streets of Baltimore all the way up to behind the scenes of governmental affairs.
Last Sundays conclusion didn't carry the corny and common sentiments that most series finales do. But instead it focused on continuing on the intriguing plot of this season's 10 episodes where the team of cops finally get Marlo but have to keep the secret of how they did it. Paid court informants were revealed, unexpected homicides occurred (as always) and lawyers got paid. Overall it was everything it needed to be and more. It was an excellent last episode. Personally the only thing I didn't like was the path that seems to be laid ahead for Duquan "Dukie" Weems. Can you say Bubbles Jr.?
For a newbie to the hit show (favourite of most rappers and even presidential candidate Barack Obama), I now have the task of finding season 1-4 and catching up on everything. Although I have read a large amount and know all of the characters from the past. What can I say? It was a good show. Well done David Simon. Can you top this? Sure, next time your show will be great and have the ratings to prove it.

Mentor Us Please
Oprah's Big Nothing
How could a show with such a good basis be ridiculed with so many flaws? How could a show created by the Queen of Talk T.V. (and everything else) turn out to be nothing more than Harpo’s (Oprah's production company) attempt to cash in on reality T.V.
The show’s creators have taken the theme of a 2006 Oprah show where she gives $200 to audience members and asks them to find creative ways to bless someone else with the money. The resulted events of that challenge were taped and made for a good episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show. The premise of the show though some how became more like a season of Amazing Race than the movie Pay It Forward.
Oprah missed the mark on this show. Many say that it wasn't worth them watching and those who watched were not entertained. How many more episodes to go? This bad t.v. is reminiscent of Tyler Perry's show, you can't wait until it's off the air.

"It comes down to a black man or a woman." -S. Wilson
The reason though was a number of things, primarily the fact that his opponent John Kerry wasn't necessarily capable of being a president and then there was the fact that Bush had to remain to finish the war that he started.
Now in 2008 we know that Bush is out, because he can only serve two terms. The question is who is in? Or more specifically will America have a black man or a woman president.
Barack Obama, the son of a late Nigerian immigrant, has gone from being an underdog to almost a shoe in for the democratic presidential candidate. People want change and his Yes We Can slogan is endearing with voters. Hilary Clinton though has not been able to get back the expected lead she had in the beginning and may be counted out after the next set of preliminaries in Texas and Ohio if she doesn't display a win.
Some are saying that it is a lose lose situation. While Clinton may not be the political stronger candidate, Obama is a black man whose safty might be an issue.
However if no one has taken Bush out for his initiating the Iraq war thus killing thousands of American Soilders then Obama should be safe. It's sad though because who ever wins is going to have the difficult task of cleaning up the trillion dollar mess that was made in the last eight years. The word recession is being thrown around, although the current president denies it, and this could make the first few years in office hell for either Clinton or Obama. Either way the change needs to occur this year. The war needs to stop and the democrats will be the ones to do it.
As for the Republican, lead runner McCain won't be an issue as the majority of Americans are sick of Republics and feels he's too old (currently 71 years old).
So what would you rather (if you were American? It comes down to a black man or a woman.
School Debate Update
He knows even less than myself and my friends who are privileged in that we were products of two parent homes and educated in the peel district. We lived in houses not in government subsides apartments. We had guardians not just a single mother who had to care for us and 3-5 of our siblings. The disparities are never-ending.
How dare we think just because we are minorities and we survived that these Toronto youths don't need assistance. They are usually not exposed to positive black role models and a black focus school can provide them with that.
That is now my stand the debate. Now we still don't know what the curriculum will entail but I'm sure if them employ people that actually want to make a difference, this school will have a big effect.
Thanks to those older people that shed light on my ignorance regarding the topic and I look forward to seeing the positive change this school will promote.

Winterlicious
Now there is no shortage of choice for restaurants offering a Winterlicious menu but there is some misleading involved.
Some research should be involved when choosing a restaurant. Some restaurants aren't that posh and the service is not the best. Check online recommendations before choosing one.
While you research feel no pressure to make your decision in the two weeks before the event is over, there is a summerlicious too!

Amazing Events for Cheap
The GTA has it if you are willing to look for it. Years of living in Brampton made me think that the GTA had nothing to offer. I was tired of going to the downtown core to go clubbing. I was tired of clubbing period. So then I discovered theatre. But at $60 or more per ticket for those production I had to give up that pastime too.
But then I started networking and I discovered some really fun and different events and activities for really good prices. Like Winterlicious, a two week event where luxurious restaurants offer 3 course dinner for only $25-35! Go to www.toronto.com/winterlicious for more info and participating venues.
Also there are some spectacular gospel concerts put on by the House of Levi. The had Fred Hammond (in above picture) last September and just had a Martin Luther King Jr. day celebration featuring Hezekiah Walker. Early bird tickets are usually $10 and are well worth it. Sign up for their newsletter at houseoflevi.com.
There are also great culture events like Poet Tea which takes place every month. Last week it was at Knowledge Bookstore on 177 Queen Street in Brampton. It only cost $3 which was basically to cover the all you can sip herbal teas. It was a deep session with freestyling, poem recitals and even an information session on the event's featured herb, ginseng. Visit http://booity.googlepages.com
With all those and so much more the GTA finally has the type of cultured, conscious and fun events that I've been looking for. And at such at decent cost.
